About MAPEI MAPELASTIC SMART

91 000 74051 Mapei Mapelastic Smart A two-component, highly flexible, cementitious waterproofing mortar. It is a brushable/rollable coating that cures to form a seamless, crack-bridging membrane.

Primary Function: To provide a durable, flexible, and vapour-permeable waterproofing layer for concrete and masonry, capable of bridging both static and dynamic cracks.

Q1: What is the mixing ratio and method?

A: The ratio is fixed: 2 parts Component A (powder) : 1 part Component B (liquid) by weight. Always add the powder to the liquid and mix mechanically at low speed for ~1.5 minutes to achieve a lump-free, homogeneous consistency. Do not mix by hand.

Q2: How is it applied and what is the required thickness?

A: It must be applied in at least two coats to achieve a final thickness of 2 mm.

Reinforcement: For critical areas (terraces, pools), embed an alkali-resistant glass fibre mesh (e.g., Mapenet ISO) in the first wet coat. For superior crack bridging on horizontal surfaces, use a polypropylene fabric (Mapetex Sel N).

Recoat Time: Apply the second coat after 4-5 hours, once the first coat has hardened.

Q3: What is the coverage area?

A: Consumption depends on the application method:

Trowel/Roller: ~1.6 kg/m per mm of thickness (~3.2 kg/m for 2mm DFT).

Spray Machine: ~2.2 kg/m per mm of thickness (~4.4 kg/m for 2mm DFT).

Actual consumption will be higher on rough or uneven surfaces.

Q4: How long before I can tile over it?

A: Wait at least 5 days for the membrane to cure before tiling. In ideal conditions (good weather, warm temperature, dry substrate), this can be reduced to 24 hours.

Q5: What primers or compatible products are required?

A: The substrate must be prepared correctly, but Mapelastic Smart itself does not require a separate primer. However, it is part of a system:

Component A (Powder): 12 months

Component B (Liquid): 24 months

Store in a dry place above +5C in their original, sealed packaging.

Q7: What are the limitations?

Do not apply if temperature is below +8C.

Do not add water, cement, or other materials to the mix.

Protect from rain and water spillage for the first 24 hours after application.

Not for use in submerged areas of swimming pools.

Not for use on insufficiently cured or lightweight substrates.
