About ASIANPAINTS SMART CARE PU AQUA
91 000 74051 SmartCare PU Aqua A single-component, liquid-applied, water-based polyurethane dispersion (PUD) coating for waterproofing concrete surfaces. It cures to form a seamless, white, elastomeric membrane.
Primary Function: To provide a flexible, UV-resistant, and water-impermeable barrier for protecting concrete structures from water ingress, both internally and externally.
Key Features & Benefits :
Water-Based (Aqua): Lower VOC, less odour, and easier cleanup with water compared to solvent-based alternatives.
Seamless Membrane: Forms a continuous, joint-free protective layer.
UV Resistant: The white color reflects sunlight and remains stable under UV exposure, making it ideal for terraces and parapets.
High Elasticity: Excellent elongation (450%) to bridge cracks up to 4mm.
Excellent Weathering Resistance: Withstands harsh environmental conditions.
Q1: How is this different from other PU membranes like Flexiseal PU?
A: The key difference is the base. PU Aqua is water-based, making it more user-friendly and environmentally friendly. Flexiseal PU is solvent and pitch-based, which is typically more heavy-duty and has higher solid content but comes with stronger odour and flammability precautions.
Q2: How is it applied?
A:
Surface Prep: Concrete must be cured (28 days), sound, and clean. Moisture content must be <5-10%. Repair all cracks and holes with an epoxy-based mortar.
Priming: It is mandatory to apply SmartCare Epoxy Primer (mixed in a ratio of Resin:Hardener:Water = 1:1:2 by weight). Allow it to dry for 2-3 hours.
Application: Mix the PU Aqua thoroughly. Apply the first coat. Apply the second coat after 8-10 hours in a direction perpendicular (cross-direction) to the first coat to ensure even coverage.
Q3: What is the coverage area?
A: The consumption is 1.5 - 2.0 kg per square meter to achieve a 1mm Dry Film Thickness (DFT) in two coats.
Q4: How long does it take to cure? When can it be tested?
A:
Recoat Time: 8-10 hours between coats.
Flood Test: A water test can be performed 72 hours after the final coat has been applied.
Q5: What is the shelf life?
A: 2 years from the date of manufacture when stored in its original, tightly closed container in a cool, dry place.
Q6: Is it safe to use?
A: As a water-based product, it is safer than solvent-based options. However, standard safety precautions apply:
Wear eye protection.
Keep out of reach of children.
Do not ingest. Seek medical attention if swallowed.
