About
91 000 74051 A Swellable Water Bar is a flexible hydrophilic strip used for waterproofing construction joints and cold joints in concrete structures. When it comes into contact with water, it swells up to many times its original volume, blocking water passage and sealing the joint effectively.
It is an ideal alternative to conventional PVC water stops for difficult placements, vertical joints, and complex shapes.
Key Features & Benefits
Hydrophilic swelling action Expands up to 200300% on contact with water, sealing gaps.
Easy installation Can be nailed, stapled, or fixed with adhesive in construction joints.
Excellent water sealing Prevents leakage through joints and honeycombs.
Durable & chemical resistant Resists saline water, mild acids & alkalis.
Flexible & adaptable Suitable for irregular profiles, penetrations, and difficult joint shapes.
Cost effective Replaces large PVC water stops in many applications.
Areas of Application
Water tanks, underground sumps
Sewage treatment plants, STPs & ETPs
Tunnels & metro structures
Basements, raft slabs, retaining walls
Dams, canals, culverts, bridges
Precast segments & segmental linings
Pipe penetrations & concrete joints
Method of Application
Surface Preparation: Clean joint surface free of dust, oil, and laitance.
Fixing: Place water bar in center of joint using nails, adhesive, or holder.
Overlap: Ensure overlaps are minimum 50 mm, press firmly to avoid gaps.
Concrete Placement: Pour concrete carefully without displacing the water bar.
Curing: Allow concrete to set; upon water exposure, the strip swells to seal joints.
FAQ (Questions & Answers)
Q1. What is a swellable water bar used for?
It is used in construction joints (horizontal & vertical) to prevent water seepage.
Q2. How does it work?
It swells on contact with water, blocking water pathways through joints.
Q3. Can it be used instead of PVC water stops?
Yes. Especially suitable where PVC water stops are difficult to fix, like vertical joints, small widths, and repair jobs.
Q4. What sizes are available?
Common sizes are 25 10 mm, 20 15 mm, 25 20 mm, etc. Custom sizes are also available.
Q5. What is the swelling capacity?
Typically 200300% of its volume depending on grade and water quality.
Q6. How to install it?
It is fixed with nails, adhesives, or concrete nails in the joint before pouring concrete.
Q7. What is the price?
Average market price is around 200 350 per meter depending on size, brand, and quality.
